The vines can be grown on trellises, fences and pergolas, around patios and decks, under trees, and directly on walls.  Most of these vines grow well with average soil moisture and partial shade, though some can take full shade or full sun giving the home gardener more options for use in the landscape.

Some of the white flowering vines are native plants, which are more naturally insect resistant, salt tolerant and have natural disease resistance. Two interesting native vines with white flowers are American Bittersweet, Celastrus scandens with its beautiful red, orange or yellow berries in the fall, and Virginsbower, Clematis virginia which flowers from July through September. Hardy from Nova Scotia to Manitoba, south to Georgia and Kansas, Virginsbower will handle weather extremes of severe cold. heat, humidity and is drought tolerant.

Two white flowering vines that might not immediately come to mind since the species is more often associated with other bloom colors are Japanese Wisteria 'Alba' or 'Longissima Alba' and Jackman Hybrid Clematis varieties. More interesting work has been done in Europe lately on other Clematis hybrids with many new double-flowered forms and ruffled edges to the petals.  The extensive breeding is resulting in longer bloom times and more compact selections for today's small space gardens and patio containers.  Interesting new uses add excitement and texture by espaliering or growing in combination with other plants like roses, ornamental shrubs and evergreens already in the home garden, where the vines can grow directly over the other plants, adding perennial color and a new look with very little effort.

Well worth mentioning is a little known, outstanding ornamental vine called Chinese Hydrangea-vine or False Hydrangea.  Schizophragma integrifolium, only distantly related to true Hydrangeas, is a connoisseur's plant with immense 10 to 12" white blooms.

Vines with white flowers can lighten up darker parts of the garden to enliven outdoor living spaces. White flowers blend easily with all of the other cool colors: blue, pink, lavenders and purples, and works equally well with the warm or hot colors of red, orange and yellow.  Growing several different types of white flowering vines can extend the bloom, adding the vertical accent color throughout the landscape in the spring, summer and fall.

Many of these vines also have lovely fall color, fruits and berries.
