Armitage says: "Health of the plant and flowering persist longer in dry summers than wet ones."

Growth:

  Range: Grows from 15" to 20".

Flowers:

  Season(s): Summer

Armitage says: "Is the best of the bicolors, bearing 5" wide flowers with a mahogany-red center zone on the ray petals, then golden yellow beyond."

  Armitage says: "Native throughout the plains states and east to the Carolinas, plants were as numerous as the buffalo and bison, and although the natural habitat for the plant has declined, the breeding and diversity of the species has increased. "
