  Japan, the Ryukyus, Formosa, Korea and China  

Sun/Water Requirements:

  Partial sun.

Dirr says: "Adaptable, sandy soils to clays as long as well-drained; acid or alkaline; used extensively in Florida; seems to thrive in sandy soils and hot, dry locations; full sun or heavy shade."

Climate / Hardiness Zones:

  Zone 8

Dirr says: "Zone 8, preferably lower portion to Zone 10; plant is often flattened in Athens - Atlanta, GA by cold but in Macon and August, GA prospers, distances of 100 to 120 miles south."

Growth:

  Range: Grows from 10' to 25'.
Dirr says: "10 - 12' high, spread 1 1/2 to 2 times height; picturesque spreading plants 20 to 25' high have been reported. Dense, compact, broad-spreading evergreen shrub of impenetrable proportions. Withstands heavy pruning."

  Season(s): Late Spring, Summer

Dirr says: "somewhat inconspicuous but wonderfully fragrant; 5-petaled, orange-blossom scented, creamy white becoming yellow with age, 1/2 to 1" diameter, borne in 2 to 3" diameter clusters, April - May."
