  Ontario to Minnesota, south to Florida and Texas  

Sun/Water Requirements:

  Can tolerate both shady and sunny conditions.
Moderate to dry conditions.

Growth:

  Range: Grows from 15' to 30'.
Dirr says: "a small, graceful tree with many horizontal or droopig branches usually forming a rounded outline, somewhat pyramidal in youth."

Dirr says: "Attractive native, medium-sized tree for lawns, parks, golf courses, naturalized areas and possibly street tree use. The species has performed well in city plantings and very narrow tree lawns; once established it makes excellent growth. Abundant on slopes of the University Botanical Garden (U. of GA) above the Oconee River flood plain and is totally absent in the areas that are periodically flooded."
