Climate / Hardiness Zones:

  Zone 5 to Zone 9

Growth:

Dirr says: "self-clinging and twining vine climbs by tendriils. Will cover trees or often snakes along the ground."

Flowers:

  Color(s): Orange, Red
Season(s): Spring

Dirr says: "interesting mocha fragrance, Mid-April in Athens, GA, effective for 3 to 4 weeks; curiously attractive. Because of the large numbers of flowers, superb flower colors and delightful fragrance, this should endear this vine to more gardeners. I do not see any significant reblooming during the summer on the typical brownish red forms; however, an orange-flowered selection ('Jekyll') I made from a wild population on Jekyll Island, GA will produce flowers sporadically through the growing season."

Foliage:

  Broadleaf Evergreen
Color: Leaves are dark green in the summer and purple in the fall.

Fruit:

  Color: Black
Season(s): Fall

Landscape Value:

Dirr says: "Interesting native plant"

Other:

  Is Resistant to Disease
Is Resistant to Insects
