Armitage says: "It was like an oven in San Antonio, but the sidewalk and surrounding building was even hotter, yet the abundant scarlet blossoms were flowering their heads off and the plants were actually enjoying themselves.They had obviously been flowering for a long time because the containers were full and black to purple berries were numerous.The plant really comes into its own with the tubular scarlet flowers begin to appear in terminal flat topped 3-5" wide inflorescences (cymes)."
