Armitage says: "It is a true annual, flowering first year from seed. Flowers are a beautiful gentian blue, measuring about an 1" across, with five purple stamens and white anthers. The anthers make the flowers appear to be spotted white. Cool temperatures, especially cool nights are needed to keep plants flowering (actually to keep them alive) in eastern gardens."
