Armitage says: "This lovely plant bears 9-12 creamy yellow flowers on an upright spike, similar to a gladiolus.The 3/4-1" wide flowers are darker in the center and striped with purple on their backsides (thus the name striatum).The foliage is wider than most species (up to 1" across) and can be mistaken for Iris when not in flower.After flowering, plants become messy and should be fertilized to reduce the number of leaves which naturally turn yellow, or cut back to 6" of the ground."
