  Southern Japan, Formosa and China  

Sun/Water Requirements:

  Partial/Full sun.
Moderate climate.

Climate / Hardiness Zones:

  Zone 9 to Zone 10

Dirr says: "Only suited for Zone 9 and 10. Largely killed to the ground at 11°F at Sea Island, GA."

Growth:

  Range: Grows from 30' to 40'.
Dirr says: "loose pyramidal outline of soft pendulous branches. Ultimate height ranges from 30 to 40'. Bark is quite attractive."

  Broadleaf Evergreen
Color: Leaves are dark green in the summer.
Dirr says: "This species is distinct from all others in the width of the leaf as compared to its length. Elleptic,lustrous leaves are 1 to 3" long and 1/2 to 1 1/4" wide, with numerous veins running lengthwise."

Dirr says: "fruits are 1/2" wide and covered with a plum-like bloom (wax)."
