Dirr says: "Differs from the more well-known ssp. petiolaris with fewer sterile sepals (2/3 to 1 1/2" diameter) and 9 to 15 stamens instead of 15 to 22 as in H. anomala ssp. petiolaris. The inflorescence tends to be more lax and floppy. The Arnold Arboretum, Boston, MA, had both vines on the north wall of the Administration Building and in June - July they were magnificent. "
