Dirr says: "Easily cultured; well-drained soil, ample moisture. It will show moisture stress if sited in an excessively dry location; otherwise it is a trouble-free shrub that could be used in the shrub border."

Dirr says: "Growing at Morton Arboretum, Chicago, IL and Athens, GA."

Growth:

  Range: Grows to 5'.
Dirr says: "3 to 6' high with an equal spread, upright deciduous shrub of somewhat straggly open appearance with arching branches, eventually becoming rounded."

Season(s): Spring

Dirr says: "borne in 3- to 8-flowered cymes in early to mid-May (early-April, Athens, GA); the stamens are the showy part of the flower and give a very feathery appearance to the plant, each 1" diameter flower borne on a 3/4" long pedicel (stalk) with a mass of 1/4 to 1/3" long stamens. Prune after flowering."

Dirr says: "A novelty item for the plantsman who wants something different; the flowers are quite showy and interesting; reminds of a petal-less spirea; I had this plant in my Illinois garden under the shade of a gross-feeding Prunus serotina (Black Cherry) and it performed reasonably well."
