  Yunnan, China  

Sun/Water Requirements:

  Can tolerate both shady and sunny conditions.
Moderate climate.

Climate / Hardiness Zones:

  Zone 8 to Zone 9

Dirr says: "Cold hardiness is minimal and a Zone 8 to 9 designation is appropriate."

Growth:

  Range: Grows from 30' to 50'.
Dirr says: "Have seen specimens 40' tall in Cornwall, England. The largest of the Osmanthus species, but cold hardiness minimal. My only exposure to the species has occured in English gardens, most notably Hidcote, where a 20 to 25' tree begged for identification."

Dirr says: "The sweet flowers range from creamy white to pale yellow."

Color: Leaves are dark green in the summer.
Dirr says: "Firm-textured leaves range from 3 to 8" long. Leaves may have up to 30 teeth per margin or be entire (leaf edge not toothed)."

Dirr says: "Fruits are egg-shaped, 1/2 to 1" long and deep bluish purple with a waxy bloom."
