  Balkan Peninsula, southern Italy

Dirr says: "The species was essentially irreparably injured at Orono, ME while P. heldreichii var. leucodermis has grown 31' by 15' at Morton Arboretum , Lisle IL"

  Range: Grows from 30' to 50'.
Dirr says: "Plants I have observed from New England to England are dense, compact and more appealing than P. nigra. Reported as resistant to Deplodia blight and also salt tolerant."
