Has been a stalwart in Zone 7b but little known or grown. Reported that 'Alleghany' was more cold hardy than 'Willowwood' in Orono, ME although the former did suffer stem kill, the latter was killed outright."

Growth:

Range: Grows from 10' to 20'.
Dirr says: "a selection from an V. rhytidophyllum crossed with V. lantana 'Mohican'. Vigorous, dense, globose growth habit. It is so superior to normal V. lantana that I do not understand the reasons for planting that species."

Dirr says: "abundant inflorescences in May are effectively displayed above the dark green foliage."

Season(s): Fall
Dirr says: "For several weeks in September and October the fruits becomes brilliant red as ripening advances to black at maturity."
