  Southeastern United States

  Full shade.

Armitage says: "Prefers slightly acid soils, constant moisture and good drainage."

Growth:

  Range: Grows from 6" to 8".

Armitage says: "In late spring, flask-shaped brown flowers with prominent spreading lobes are formed, although significant variability also occurs with the flowers."  

Foliage:

  Armitage says: "The evergreen leaves are up to 8" long and 10" across and usually visibly mottled. A great deal of variability occurs resulting in some plants having different degrees of leaf mottling, which shows up more in the spring than in the summer. The leaves and roots also smell terrific when crushed."
