Origin:

  New Brunswick to British Columbia, south to New York, Michigan, South Dakota and Oregon  

Sun/Water Requirements:

  Partial/Full sun.
Moderate climate.
Dirr says: "if subjected to excessive water stress it declines rapdily and makes a rather poor specimen."

Climate / Hardiness Zones:

  Zone 2 to Zone 7

Dirr says: "can be grown in Zone 8 but not well-adapted to the heat."

Growth:

  Range: Grows from 5' to 10'.

Flowers:

  Color(s): White
Season(s): Late Spring

Dirr says: "very similar to V. opulus (European Cranberry Viburnum), mid to late May, 3 to 4 1/2" flat-topped cymes; extremely handsome; possibly better than V. opulus but the plant is not as available through nurseries."  

Foliage:

  Deciduous
Color: Leaves are dark green and green in the summer and yellow, red and purple in the fall.

  Color: Red
Season(s): Fall
Dirr says: "early September through fall into February, holds better than V. opulus, edible."  

Landscape Value:

  Can be used as a hedge plant.
Can be used as a grouping plant.

Dirr says: "excellent plant for screening and informal hedging; like V. opulus it becomes too large for the small landscape. Have seen it used to define boundaries between houses in subdivisions and it really affords a good privacy screen and at the same time offers excellent flower, fruit and foliage."
