Dirr says: "large, upright shrub or small oval-rounded to round-headed tree growing 20 to 30' high. There is a great specimen at the Arnold Arboretum (Boston, MA) that exceeds 30 to 35' in height. The multiple trunks are richly sculpted with the scaly bark."
