Growth:
| |
Range: Grows from 5' to 10'.
Dirr says: "6 to 10' in height and usually slightly smaller in spread, can grow to 15'. Upright arching, vase-shaped shrub, somewhat fountain-like in overall effect; becomes leggy with age and most of the foliage is in upper one-half of the plant. Older stems should be pruned out every year; to renew plant simply cut it to the ground after flowers; flowers on old wood."

Flowers:
| |
Color(s): Pink, Yellow
Season(s):
Late Spring
Dirr says: "pink, yellow in throat, flaring bell-shaped, two-together, 1/2" long, about as wide as the mouth, May - early June, borne in 2 to 3" diameter corymbs. The principal attribute of this plant is the flower; full flower mid to late April on the Georgia campus."
Foliage:
| |
Deciduous
Color:
Leaves are dark green in the summer and yellow and red in the fall.
Dirr says: "slightly yellowish to reddish in winter."
Landscape Value:
| |
Can be used as a grouping plant.
Dirr says: "Probably belongs where it can develop alone, but hardly falls into the category of a specimen plant; rather pretty in flower but too coarse and cumbersome for many landscapes. In flower it is singularly effective; however, the rest of the year it gives one a headache."
