  Southeastern United States  

Climate / Hardiness Zones:

  Zone 5 to Zone 9

Armitage says: "Plants are evergreen in the South, although in the Armitage garden (zone 7b), the leaves look terrible by March and I remove the worst of them."

Growth:

  Range: Grows from 9" to 12".

Flowers:

  Color(s): Pink, White
Season(s): Spring

Armitage says: "Flowers are white but have a pink tinge, particularly if the weather is cool.The flowers are borne at ground level in the axils of the leaves and not terminal as in P.Leaf litter or other mulch around the plants may have to be removed to find the flowers."  

Foliage:

  Color: Leaves are purple.
Armitage says: "Plants are evergreen in the South, although in the Armitage garden (zone 7b), the leaves look terrible by March and I remove the worst of them.New leaves emerge from the ground on long petioles and may be up to 4" long.The leaves are mottled purple and are coarsely toothed towards the apex, but entire near the tapered base.The flowers are borne at ground level in the axils of the leaves and not terminal as in P."  

Landscape Value:

  Can be used as a grouping plant.

Armitage says: "It is not nearly as vigorous a ground cover as Japanese spurge but individual clumps are far more handsome."
