Growth:

Range: Grows from 50' to 100'.
Dirr says: "Three distinct habits are recognized and include the vase-shped form in which the trunk divides into several reect limbs strongly arched with pendulous branches, the whole tree a picture of great beauty and symmetry; a form with more widely spreading, less arching branches, often called the "oak-form"; and a narrow form with branchlets clothing the entire trunk. Medium to fast growth, 10 to 12' in 5 years; this rate of growth is common for many elms."

Flowers:

  Season(s): Early Spring, Late Winter

Dirr says: "greenish red, in fascicles of 3 or 4 in March, usually late February in Athens, GA. Interesting but not showy."

  Deciduous

Dirr says: "great variation in intensity of fall coloration."

Fruit:

  Color: Red, Green
Season(s): Late Spring, Summer
Dirr says: "May through July, not ornamental"

Landscape Value:

Can be used as a shade tree.
