Dirr says: "Rugosa Rose is a valuable plant for difficult sites: banks, cuts, fills, sandy soils and saline (salty) environments. Very beautiful in foliage, flower and fruit. Has escaped from cultivation in the northeastern United States and is often apparent along the sandy shores of the ocean. Withstands pruning and is often used in hedges. Has been used in hybridization work because of its extreme vigor and ease of culture."
