Origin:
	northern and central China, Korea, Japan

Sun/Water Requirements:

Partial/Full sun.
Moderate to dry conditions.

Climate / Hardiness Zones:
	Zone 4 to Zone 9 Dirr says: "hardiness greatly dependant on seed source; 40' high trees in Morton Arboretum; no injury in Orono, ME."

Growth:

Range: Grows from 30' to 50'.
Dirr says: "Rather graceful round-headed tree often with pendulous branches; some forms are upright-spreading, almost American Elm-like; others broader than tall; much variation with no two seedlings alike. Medium to fast growing depending on moisture and fertility levels. Bark is magnificent and often a beautiful mottled combination of gray, green, orange and brown; variable."

	Season(s): Late Summer Dirr says: "Easy to recognize because of late flower dates - August - September; essentially masked by the foliage."

Foliage:
	Deciduous Color: Leaves are dark green in the summer and yellow and purple in the fall. Dirr says: "fall color is usually not outstanding but appears to be better on southern grown trees than those I have observed in the north; leaves hold late and I have photographed trees in late November in fall color in Athens, GA."

Fruit:
	Color: Red, Green Season(s): Summer, Early Fall Dirr says: "Easy to recognize because of late fruit dates - Ripens in September - October"

Landscape Value:
	Can be used as a shade tree. Dirr says: "Excellent, tough, durable tree for about any situation: do not confuse it with the inferior U. pumila, Siberian Elm, which by the nursery trade is often offered as "Chinese" Elm; several authors have suggested the name Lacebark Elm to delineate it from U. pumila."
